BAIA DEL SOLE

Ragusa Ibla and Donnafugata

The city of Ragusa became in 2002 part of the Unesco “World Heritage Site” because it preserves many Baroque buildings in its historic center.

The city is called “island in the island” or “the other Sicily” for the fact that it has a history and a socio-economic context very different from the rest of the island.

The visit starts from Iblei Gardens where you find S. Giacomo’s Church, S. Giorgio’s Portal, Piazza Pola, Piazza Duomo and Palazzo La Rocca.

We will continue by bus to reach the Donnafugata Castle.

Contrary to what the name suggests, this is not a real medieval castle but a sumptuous noble residence of the late 1800s.

The house overlooked the possessions of the wealthy Arezzo De Spuches family. From the beginning the castle reveals its sumptuousness.
